Significados del verbo ‘convenir’ en castellano antiguo

Resumen

El propósito principal de este trabajo es describir el verbo ‘convenir’ en su cotexto, y establecer los valores semánticos que va adquiriendo entre los siglos XIII y XVI. En particular, además de las acepciones más conocidas y difundidas, se verá que hay otra, que no aparece sino en un restringido grupo de textos narrativos medievales, donde el significado se acerca a la idea de deber o de una acción ligada a un destino inevitable, que supera la voluntad individual. En esta acepción, que ya no se documenta en épocas sucesivas, el verbo convenir se combina con un restringido grupo de verbos, con los cuales llega a constituir un nexo de tipo colocativo. En el presente artículo se estudian además el régimen del verbo, las categorías gramaticales de sus adyacentes, un pequeño grupo de locuciones y otras colocaciones en las que el verbo se ve involucrado. El corpus textual indagado se basa casi totalmente en el CORDE de la RAE.

The main purpose of this work is to describe the verb convenir in its contexts, in order to establish the semantic values that this verb acquired between the thirteenth and the sixteenth centuries. More precisely, in addition to the most well-known and widespread meanings, it will be seen that there is another one, which only appears in a restricted group of medieval narrative texts; here the meaning of the verb is close to the idea of duty or that of an action linked to an inevitable destiny that surpasses individual will. Where the verb convenir acquires this meaning, which is no longer documented in subsequent periods, it’s combined with a restricted group of verbs, with which it constitutes a sort of collocation. This paper also examines other aspects of convenir, such as its verbal complementation and its connections with other collocations and idioms. The textual corpus investigated is almost entirely based on the Real Academia’s CORDE.
