Abstract

Claudio Napoleoni has always conceived his philosophical and economic reflections as a means to define a political and economic policy proposal aimed at being an instrument for the liberation of labor and humanity. This political goal remains central in Napoleoni’s work, despite the evolution of his economic policy proposal in correspondence with the turning points of his theoretical reflections. This essay is devoted to the analysis of Napoleoni’s economic policy proposal in the period preceding his election to the National Parliament, highlighting the continuity of the content of this proposal with regard to the need to fight against rent within the framework of “strong” economic planning, and to the role played by unions able to exercise political control over the proper implementation of the economic plan through the use of wages as an independent variable. The continuity of Napoleoni’s economic policy proposal goes through the phases of rupture of his theoretical reflections, which, however, change the effectiveness of these reflections with respect to the ultimate goal consisting in the liberation of labor from alienation and exploitation and of humanity from economic domination.
