Edited by Rahilya Geybullayeva and Christine van Ruymbeke, The Interpretation of Nizami’s Cultural Heritage in the Contemporary Period collects the contributions of 37 scholars and experts, dialoguing around the theme of the contemporary reception of the Medieval poet Nizami of Ganja and his literary Heritage. The volume presents the proceedings of a Conference held in Baku in 2018 with the support of the “Nizami Ganjevi International Centre.” The work seeks to foster the discussion on the means of interpretation of the historical and cultural past in the frame of the contemporary socio-political scenario. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the volume under review explores the Post-colonial and Post-Soviet receptions of the themes of the literary production of Nezami of Ganja and reveals the broad spectrum of the contemporary forms of representation of the great poet in both the academic and non-academic field.
