European resistance against Nazi-Fascism was not considered the key phenomenon in the light of which to philosophically reflect on the concept of ‘resistance’, which has led to philosophical theories about resistance and the act of resistance at least in part inadequate or flawed. The most influential contemporary philosophical theories of resistance, those of Carl Schmitt and Foucault, prove to be unsuitable for addressing the phenomenon of European resistance. Resistance therefore remains largely unthought on a philosophical level.
