Abstract

The article surveys the relationships between political economy, literature and the humanities. Its aim is to outline how, after a period of common interest shown by writers like Machiavelli, Shakespeare, Goethe, Stendhal and other thinkers, since the second half of the 19th century we have been witnessing a dichotomy between economy and the humanities.
